About PilotPDF
PilotPDF is an independent project with a simple premise: everyday file tasks — merging a PDF, compressing a scan, converting a photo — shouldn't require uploading your documents to someone else's server, creating an account, or paying for a subscription you'll use twice a year.
Why we built this
Online file tools are enormously convenient, and most people use them without a second thought — including for documents that are actually quite sensitive: employment contracts, bank statements, IDs, medical paperwork. Every one of those uploads is an act of trust in a company you know nothing about.
Modern browsers made a better model possible. With WebAssembly, the heavy lifting that used to require a server — parsing PDFs, re-encoding images, running OCR — can run at near-native speed on your own device. PilotPDF is built entirely on that model: over 80 tools, every one of them processing files locally in your browser. Read exactly how that works — and how to verify it — on our privacy-by-design page.
What we promise
- No uploads. Your files are processed on your device and never sent to us.
- No accounts. Every tool works without signing up or handing over an email address.
- No watermarks or artificial limits. The output is yours, unbranded.
- Free. The tools are free to use, supported by non-intrusive advertising on the site itself — never by your data or your files.
