Protect PDF adds a password with AES-256 encryption, and can also stop printing, copying or editing in apps that respect those settings. The text stays searchable, because the pages are encrypted as they are rather than turned into pictures.

Unlock PDF removes a password you already know, or lifts the printing and copying limits from a file that opens without one. It does not guess or crack passwords.

Sign PDF places a drawn, typed or uploaded signature on any page, with the date or your printed name beside it. Remove PDF Metadata deletes the title, author, dates and other hidden properties a file carries, which is worth doing before a document leaves your organisation.

Password Generator makes random passwords of the length and character mix you choose. Use one when you protect a PDF, and keep it in a password manager.

Know what each one can and cannot do

An open password keeps people out of the file. Printing and copying limits are only a request, and some apps ignore them, so rely on the open password for anything confidential. Send that password separately from the file, by text message or a phone call.

A signature added with Sign PDF is a picture of your signature on the page. That is accepted for many everyday agreements, but some contracts need a certificate-based digital signature, so check what the other side requires.

Removing metadata does not touch anything shown on the pages. To hide names or numbers that are visible in the document, use Redact PDF before you share it.
